Portage Signal

Stop 01 — Overview

Downtown Montréal's news site and weekly podcast

Portage Signal reports on the Quartier des spectacles, Sainte-Catherine Street, Place Ville Marie and the Golden Square Mile — and carries advertising for the businesses that operate there, from cafés near Concordia to galleries off McGill College.

Stop 02 — Rate card

Advertising placements

Three ways to reach downtown readers and listeners: a listing on our community page, mentions on our weekly podcast, or a combined six-week partnership across both. Prices below are the full rate; nothing is negotiated by tier.

Stop 03 — How booking works

A short, direct process

  1. 01

    You tell us the placement

Choose a listing, podcast mentions or the full partnership, and tell us a little about what you're advertising.

  2. 02

    We confirm the schedule

We reply with the run dates, the episode slots or listing window, and what creative we need from you.

  3. 03

    You approve before it runs

Podcast scripts and listing copy are shared for approval before anything is recorded or published.

  4. 04

    We send a summary afterward

Page views for listings, or listen counts per episode for podcast mentions, so you know what ran and when.

Stop 04 — Where placements run

On the site and in the feed

The community page

A public directory page on our site, organised by neighbourhood — the Quartier des spectacles, Sainte-Catherine Street, the Golden Square Mile and the Concordia–McGill corridor. Listings sit alongside our news coverage of downtown.

The weekly podcast

A downtown news and culture podcast released every week, covering what's happening from Place Ville Marie to the Golden Square Mile. Host-read mentions sit inside the regular episode, not as a separate ad break.

Stop 05 — What each booking includes

Included with every placement

  • A confirmed run date or episode slot before anything is billed.
  • Creative or script review before publication or recording.
  • A written summary after the run: page views for listings, listen counts for podcast mentions.
  • One listing update, included at no extra charge, during the 30-day window.

Stop 06 — Who reads Portage Signal

Downtown, not the whole city

Around the Quartier des spectacles

Festival-goers, gallery visitors and residents who follow what's showing and what's opening.

Sainte-Catherine Street and Place Ville Marie

Shoppers, office workers and commuters passing through the retail and business core.

The Golden Square Mile

Residents and professionals in the heritage blocks north of Sherbrooke Street.

Concordia and McGill

Students, staff and faculty moving between the two downtown campuses.

Stop 07 — What we don't do

Plainly stated limits

  • We do not write or place content outside the three placements on our rate card — no extra tiers, no custom packages.
  • We do not guarantee sales, leads or any business outcome from a placement; we sell space and airtime, not results.
  • We do not run advertising for restricted or regulated categories, or content that misrepresents what a business offers.
  • We do not blur editorial coverage and paid placements — sponsored mentions are always identified as such on air and on the page.

Stop 08 — Partnership timeline

The six-week Full Coverage Partnership, week by week

Week 1

Planning session and creative brief.

Weeks 2–5

Site placement live; newsletter credits and podcast mentions run across the four weeks.

Week 6

Partner-labelled feature publishes; closing summary sent.

Stop 09 — What to send us

Before we can schedule your placement

  • Your logo (for a listing) as a PNG or SVG file.
  • A short description of the business, in your own words — we edit lightly for length, not tone.
  • A contact name and the SITE_EMAIL or phone number we should use for approvals.
  • For podcast mentions, any pronunciation notes for names or addresses.
